What is Ponyplay?
Ponyplay is a subgroup of the popular BDSM niche fetish of "petplay", wherein one or more members of a Dominance/submissive type dynamic behaves in an animalistic manner or is treated like an animal either by choice, by force, and/or as a sexual fetish. However, ponyplay is much much more than that to many people. To many ponies, being a human equine is a way of life. For many of us, there is nothing sexual about it. Discovering your inner pony may be as simple as it clicking into place during a morning jog, or as complex as spending several years determining what exactly it means to you. There is no single definition, and everyone is welcome, so long as we remain open-minded and accepting of all colors in the rainbow spectrum that is ponyplay.
How Can I Become a Pony?
To many people, 'being a pony' is a sexual fetish and nothing more. To others, it is a way of life that reaches into every tiny nook and cranny of who they are. Once you discover what exactly being a pony means to you and have explored the possibilities of what is interesting to you about it and what you consider to be your limits, you can begin looking into different niches within the community that you might fit into. Some ponies like to carry riders on their backs or shoulders, some like to pull carts, some enjoy dressage training and competitions, some like to jog, some just like to wear a bit and bridle during sex - it's all about what you're into. There's no wrong way to be a pony!
What Do Ponies Do?
For the truly dedicated, there are lots of options on ways to exercise your pony side offline. Tons of talented sculptors and leatherworkers create beautiful masks, harnesses, boots, and gloves made to display on the outside what kind of pony you are on the inside. Check out Bob Basset and Punitive Shoes for some really gorgeous options, but there are hundreds more. There's also competitions like the Dog and Pony Show, Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, and Camp Crucible in Maryland for ponies who can't resist the urge to really strut their stuff.
Where Can I Meet Other Ponies?
The internet is a great place for meeting others into this admittedly lonely lifestyle. Here on FA, there are tons of furries who love the equine world - and many of them don't even realize it! You can check out plenty of BDSM-themed sites, including Fetlife, for opportunities to meet other ponies in your area, or you can find your herd online either through our shoutbox (just leave a message stating if you are a pony, trainer, or other, and what you're looking for - who knows who you might meet?) or IRC chat (#ponystables on Furnet).
If you're just looking for a fun chat to hang out in to meet and chat with other like-minded people or even find a pony or trainer of your own, check out our IRC channel!
If you've never used IRC before, you can download a great free client from http://mirc.com/ and connect to the Furnet server at irc.furnet.org and join our channel, #ponystables using the easy to follow instructions on the website. There's a pretty big group that hangs out and chats but we're always looking for new members and happy to answer any questions you may have!
